On Monday night, September 14th, the Collier County Republican Executive Committee passed the following recommendations for the amendments on the 2020 General Ballot.

                                      2020 Constitutional Amendments

Whereas, It is vital that all Republicans be fully informed and educated regarding their proposed amendments to Florida’s Constitution on the 2020 general election ballot;

 Whereas, Amendment 1: (YES) Proposed by citizen initiative and entitled Citizenship Required to Vote in Florida Elections which provides that only United States citizens who are at least 18 years of age, a permanent Florida resident, and registered to vote, shall be qualified to vote in a capital Florida election properly clarifies that voter eligibility in Florida should be reserved only to citizens of these United States and that the RPOF officially supports; Vote YES

 Whereas, Amendment 2: (NO) Proposed by citizen initiative and entitled,  Raising Florida’s Minimum  Wage, which raises the state minimum wage to $10 per hour effective September 30th, 2021, and annually increases the minimum wage by $1 per hour until it reaches $15 per hour on September 30th, 2026, will negatively impact the state and result in Florida jobs being eliminated or automated – Vote No

 Whereas,  Amendment 3: (NO) proposed by citizen initiative and  entitled, All Voters Vote in Primary Elections for State Legislature, Governor, and Cabinet, which abolishes party primary elections for state legislature, governor and cabinet effective January 1 cover 2024, will eliminate the ability of grassroots Republicans to nominate the candidate of their choice, limit every voter’s choice at the General Election, and replace Florida’s elections with costly elections that have failed in liberal states like Washington and California and the RPOF officially opposes – Vote No

 Whereas, Amendment 4: (YES), proposed by joint resolution of the Florida Legislature and entitled Voter Approval of Constitutional Amendments, which requires all proposed amendments or revisions to the state constitution to be approved by the voters in two elections, instead of one, in order to take effect, will safeguard our Constitution and help prevent outside special interests from opposing unnecessary, costly, and harmful policies on Floridians – Vote YES

 Whereas, Amendment 5 : (YES), proposed by joint resolution of the Florida Legislature and entitled Limitation on Homestead Assessments, which increases from 2 to 3 years, the period of time during which accrued Save-Our-Homes benefits may be transferred to a new homestead, will expand tax relief for homeowners; and Combat-Related Disabilities, which carries over the homestead property tax discount for certain veterans with permanent combat-related disabilities to their surviving spouse holding legal or beneficial title to, and permanently residing on, the homestead property, until he or she remarries or sells or otherwise disposes of the property, will reduce the tax burden for surviving spouses– Vote YES

Whereas, Amendment 6 : (YES), provides an extension of Ad Valorem Tax Discount for Spouses of Certain Deceased Veterans who had permanent combat-related disabilities. It allows for a homestead property tax discount to be transferred to surviving spouse of a deceased veteran or veterans with permanent combat related disabilities. – Vote YES

 Now, therefore may it be resolved, that the CCREC recommends the following in the General Election:

 

1. “YES” vote on Amendment 1, Citizenship Requirements…
2. “NO” vote on Amendment 2, Raising Florida’s Minimum Wage…
3. “NO” vote on Amendment 3, All Voters Vote in Primary Elections…
4. “YES” vote on Amendment 4, Voter Approval of Constitutional Amendments
5. “YES” vote on Amendment 5, Limitation on Homestead Assessments
6. “YES” vote on Amendment 6, Ad Valorem Tax Discount

 REESTABLISH FUNDING FOR CONSERVATION COLLIER

 Shall Collier County establish the levy of a .25 mil ad valorem tax for 10 years for the purpose of continuing to acquire, preserve and manage environmentally sensitive lands and provide compatible public access wherever applicable to such lands protection of water quality, water resources, wildlife habitat and public open space in perpetuity?  Vote NO
